Enacted by the Pennsylvania state legislature in 2001, The Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program has accomplished what many in Pennsylvania have been advocating for years: a way for the business community to be directly involved in education. The EITC provides Pennsylvania companies with the opportunity to support local nonprofit charities. • More than 2,000 companies have pledged in excess of $200 million to programs across Pennsylvania. • Pennsylvania companies can receive up to 90% in tax credits. • Annually, tax credits are awarded on a first come first served basis. • Contributions can only be made to specific Nonprofit Scholarship and Educational Improvement Organizations, as determined by the Department of Community and Economic Development. George Junior Republic is registered as both an Education Improvement Organization (EIO) and Scholarship Organization. The EITC program offers tremendous incentives for companies to direct tax dollars into their communities. In addition to receiving state tax credits, many companies can also deduct contributions on their federal tax return, costing businesses virtually nothing to have a profound impact on the lives of children.
